MTV News - How 'Yours' Is Your MySpace Page? Some Cautionary Advice ...Even MTV is warning against posting too much info on MySpace and Facebook- the article's moral: "Think before you post."
While this article is directed to a slightly older crowd (applying for jobs, etc), the message rings true- don't post anything on the Internet that you wouldn't want your mother (or principal or potential employer) to see!

Is myspace still a bad website even if yopu make yours private???
MySpace is not a bad website. There are bad users who have taken advantage of its existence. However, as long as you are smart about the use, there should be no reason to steer away. The security measures (one of which you alluded to) are great. So is a cautious mind and an open and honest relationship with the adults in your life.
Be careful and enjoy!
I don't think that myspace is all that bad. Yes, there have been issues concerning the safety of children, but because I do have a myspace i do see what kids put on their profile. Preditors don't just close their eyes and click on whoever and go for them. No they look for the girls who put their selves out there. For instance, putting up half nude pictures, typing things in their profile that would mislead people to actually think they are someone they are not. All because its the "cool" thing to do, and of course every single person loves to get lots and lots of comments and friend requests, because being popular is nice. So the only way people will look at you or your page is if your "hott",have a nice body ect...So young girls post these pictures displaying what they have just to please these guys and to get attention. Well of course, who doesn't like to recieve attention by having people tell them they look good? All in all the girls who get prayed on by these pedifiles and such are the ones who put them selves out there. I, myself is an 18 years old girl. My father is a homicide detective, and if it weren't for him and his stories I would most likely be just like one of those girls on myspace revealing all just for a few lousy comments and friend requests. Parents concern is most certainly needed.Even some of my close friends are on myspace displaying innapropriate pictures,do they listen to me when i tell them what kind of situation they are putting themselves in? No, of course not, they aren't gonna listen to anyone, because they are cool on myspace, they have alot of friends why give that up? I mean it's not like anything will happen to them...stuff like that happens to everyone else...right? Wrong, don't you think that's what every victom has told them selves? "Well it only happens to other people though!" If you have a child that has a myspace I urge you to check it out.Maybe even set the page as private, therefore only your friends can see your page. Obviously this method will only work if you don't add everyone and anyone of course. But hey, that's just my opinion.Everyone has there own oppinion. Here is my myspace www.myspace.com/crewmuatsyats ---example on how you can protect yourself from preditors. :) Have a nice day!
